Welcome to our seminar. My name is Rodger Hosking and today we'll be looking at how FPGAs or Field Programmable Gate Arrays can be used to solve some tough communications and signal processing problems. In the last decade, ASICs, or application specific ICs, and DSPs have been deployed to handle nearly all the signal processing functions associated with radio communications. And even though programmable logic has been around for decades, the new generation of FPGAs are so powerful that they're now displacing ASICs and DSPs in the latest software radio applications. |
