Sonar systems require precision, multi-channel A/D converters with sampling rates in the ultrasonic range. The phase characteristics of each A/D channel must be extremely stable and channel-to-channel phase matching is vital. In order to preserve these high dynamic range signals, floating point-processors are usually preferred.
